My philosophy of education is that every student should be given the tools to grow through learning in an environment that fosters creativity. It is my job, as a teacher, to not only create that environment within the classroom, but also to also to use my knowledge of music to teach fundamental concepts that will allow my students to continue making and appreciating music outside of the classroom. I strongly believe in the teaching of music concepts through the use of non-classical traditions alongside Western, classical tradition. This helps students, as they learn fundamental concepts, also understand the purpose of music from many cultures and perspectives including their own. Every student deserves the opportunity to learn and explore through their music education in a comfortable, safe environment that welcomes and supports all learners.
